This year’s version of Our Kootenay Paradise – the much loved Robuster calendar is proving very popular with customers. At $10.00 it is a bargain and always a big hit as a stocking stuffer or hostess gift. The beautiful photos are donated by local photographers and show the beauty of our area in all seasons.
Proceeds from the calendar pay for many of the costs associated with running a dragon boat paddling club – from insurance to carbon fibre paddles. It is our main fundraising initiative and has allowed us to keep membership fees low enough so that any woman who would like to join the team can do so easily. For breast cancer survivors, the first year is free, and if there is anyone who really wants to become a Robuster but can’t afford the low fees, we will waive them.
Robusters sell the calendars to friends, family and members of the public by placing them in local businesses and by taking part in craft fairs and other events like hockey games and community celebrations. The photo shows Denise Maier and Lorraine Bell-Lebedoff at the Castlegar Craft Faire.
