On Saturday, June 23, the Robusters invited family, friends, former team mates, supporters and donors to the grand opening of their new boathouse. After years of dealing with various government ministries, considering building designs, applying for grants from local and governmental agencies and working with a very special contractor, we were ready to cut the ribbon and celebrate.
A moving ceremony held by a local indigenous group began the event, followed by a welcoming speech from our president Bernice Barrass and a brief history of the process from the team project coordinator Otter Louis who introduced Ken Pettapiece, our contractor. A special guest, former coach Trish Ostlund addressed the group and then participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony. Finally, it was time to enjoy the refreshments and conversation with friends new and old. Our thanks to Denise Maier who coordinated the grand opening and all those who took part. It was a great event to mark a huge accomplishment.
