On Saturday, Sept. 19, a group of paddlers met at Christina Lake to enjoy a last outing together before putting the boats away for the season. While it was mainly a work party, there was time to reflect on our golden moments at the recent Penticton Dragon Boat festival.
The Dragon’s Den can accommodate the larger dragon boat from the Cranbrook team (thanks, Cranbrook), our outrigger canoe and the safety boat – all on their trailers. It required a bit of puzzle solving but the team made it happen. As well, a season in the water meant that the safety boat really needed a good cleaning so the crew all pitched in and took care of it. Finally, with everything safely stored, the big door came down for the season.
Next job is getting the annual calendars and raffle tickets out into the communities to fund our paddling program and provide for the needs of oncology patients at our local hospitals.
